Explore Kevin Costner’s deep commitment to environmental innovation and his lifelong advocacy for authentic Native American storytelling.

Throughout my career, I’ve often been drawn to stories about the land—the vast, untamed horizons that define the American spirit. But my connection to the environment and the people who have stewarded it for centuries isn’t just something I explore when the cameras are rolling. It’s a lifelong commitment to preserving the natural world and honoring the cultures that give it meaning.

One of the most defining moments of this journey occurred far from a film set, in the wake of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster. For nearly two decades prior, I had been working quietly with a team of scientists and engineers to develop a solution for a problem most people weren’t thinking about: how to effectively separate oil from water after a major spill. I had invested millions of my own money into Ocean Therapy Solutions, driven by the belief that if we take from the Earth, we must be prepared to protect it.

When the spill devastated the Gulf Coast, our centrifugal technology was finally put to the test. Seeing those machines work—processing water at high speeds to leave it 99% pure—was a humbling reminder that innovation and persistence can make a tangible difference. It wasn’t about the investment; it was about the responsibility we have as inhabitants of this planet to leave it better than we found it.

Parallel to this environmental mission is my deep, abiding respect for Native American cultures. From the days of Dances with Wolves to the present, I have felt a profound duty to ensure that Indigenous stories are told with dignity, accuracy, and heart. For too long, Hollywood relied on caricatures. My goal has always been to flip that script, focusing on the shared humanity and the complex, beautiful heritage of the Lakota and other nations.

Authenticity isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a form of respect. Whether I’m advocating for the preservation of our oceans or collaborating with Indigenous consultants to ensure a script rings true, the motivation is the same. I believe our legacy isn’t defined by the awards on a shelf, but by the water we keep clean and the voices we help elevate.

As we look toward the future, I remain committed to these causes. Conservation and cultural preservation are high-stakes endeavors, but they are the ones most worth fighting for. Thank you for standing with me on this journey.
